The breakfast and dinner was on time and delicious... We even had a bonfire. Our tour guide: Cephas is the best tour guide and driver I've ever meet. He made our safari most memorable. Mount Nyiru rises above South Horr in northern Samburu, cool and green while the land below bakes. Lujui Kenya Travels arranges Samburu guides, pack animals and camps for a real wild trek.

Day by day

Day 1. Long drive from Nairobi to Maralal, about 6 to 7 hours.

Day 2. Drive north through Baragoi to South Horr, about 4 hours. Meet guides and start the Nyiru hike to a forest camp.

Day 3. Climb through forest to the summit area for views over the Suguta Valley. Camp on the mountain.

Day 4. Descend to South Horr and drive back to Maralal.

Day 5. Drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the evening.
