Day 1. Afternoon pickup and drive to Longonot, about 1.5 hours. Pitch camp, eat dinner by the fire and watch the stars over the Rift Valley.

Day 2. Early start up the volcano to the rim, with views over Lake Naivasha and the forested crater floor. Optional loop around the rim, then breakfast at camp and back to Nairobi by early afternoon.

How early can the longonot sunrise hike start?

Park rules set trail times. Lujui Kenya Travels confirms the earliest start with KWS for your date and plans the morning around it.

How hard is the hike?

The climb to the rim is steep and dusty, about 1.5 to 2 hours. The full rim loop adds another 2 to 3 hours.

Is a longonot overnight cold?

Nights are cool and the wind can bite. Bring a warm layer and a proper sleeping bag.

What wildlife might I see?

Zebra, giraffe, gazelles and buffalo sometimes graze the lower slopes. Keep a respectful distance.

Can children come?

Yes, kids who are used to walking. Many families climb to the first viewpoint on the rim and turn back there.

How does it compare to Suswa?

Longonot is closer, inside a national park and has a marked trail. Suswa is wilder, with lava caves and fewer people.
