Day 1. Pickup in Kitale and drive to Chorlim gate, about 1 hour. Walk with your ranger to Kitum Cave and look for tusk marks on the walls. Afternoon visit to Makingeny cave and the waterfall over its mouth.

Day 2. Morning forest walk or a drive to Endebess Bluff for wide views. Back in Kitale by midday.

Will I see elephants in the cave?

Rarely. Elephants mostly visit at night. You see their tusk marks, paths and dung inside.

How deep is Kitum Cave?

It runs about 200 m into the mountain. You walk in on uneven ground with torches.

Is it safe?

You visit with a ranger. Bats live inside, so avoid touching the walls and wash your hands afterwards.

When is the best season?

December to March. Rain makes the forest roads slippery.

Can children come?

Yes, children who are fine in the dark. A hand held helps on rocky floors.

How does it compare to the 3 day Elgon hike?

This trip stays low in the forest and caves. The 3 day hike adds the climb to Koitoboss Peak.
