Day by day

Day 1. Drive to Nanyuki, about 3.5 hours, then to Sirimon gate. Hike to Old Moses Camp at about 3,300 m.

Day 2. Climb through moorland and the Mackinder Valley to Shipton's Camp at about 4,200 m.

Day 3. Start around 2am. Reach Point Lenana at 4,985 m for sunrise, then descend to Old Moses.

Day 4. Walk out to the gate. Short drive to Ol Pejeta, about 1 hour. Hot shower and rest.

Day 5. Full day at Ol Pejeta with rhino tracking and the chimpanzee sanctuary.

Day 6. Morning game drive, afternoon at camp, optional night drive.

Day 7. Drive back to Nairobi, about 4 hours.

Is Lenana and Ol Pejeta in one week too much?

Point Lenana is a trek, not a technical climb. The safari days give tired legs a rest.

When is the best season?

January to March and July to October. Avoid the heavy rains in April, May and November.

What should I pack?

Warm layers, waterproof jacket, gloves, hat, broken in boots, headlamp and a 4 season sleeping bag.

Are the fees included?

Yes. KWS mountain fees and Ol Pejeta conservancy fees are both in the price.

Can teenagers join?

Fit teens with an adult can climb. Altitude can affect anyone, so the guide sets the pace.

How does it compare to the 4 day Mount Kenya climb?

Same summit route. This trip adds three days of wildlife at Ol Pejeta.
