Day 1. Drive from Nairobi down the escarpment to Naivasha, about two hours. Boat ride among hippos.

Day 2. Morning cycling or walking in Hell's Gate. Afternoon drive to Nakuru.

Day 3. Full game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park for rhinos, lions and lakeshore birds.

Day 4. Drive north to Lake Bogoria, about two hours. See the hot springs and geysers. Continue to Lake Baringo.

When is the best time for a great Rift Valley tour?

June to October and January to March are dry. Flamingo numbers shift with water levels and are never guaranteed.

What should I pack?

Binoculars, layers, a hat, sunscreen and comfortable shoes.

Are park fees included?

Yes. Fees for Hell's Gate, Lake Nakuru and Lake Bogoria are in the price.

How long are the drives?

Most days are two hours or less. The return from Baringo to Nairobi is about five hours.

Can children come?

Yes. Short drives and boat rides suit children. Some lodges have family cottages.

How does Naivasha Nakuru Bogoria Baringo compare to a Mara safari?

The Mara is about big cats and huge herds. This circuit is about birds, water and changing scenery.
