Day by day

Day 1. Drive Nairobi to Maralal, about 6 to 7 hours.

Day 2. Continue north past Baragoi to camp on the valley rim.

Day 3. Pre dawn descent into the valley. Reach lake logipi, a saline lake often lined with flamingos. Rest in camp through the midday heat.

Day 4. Early walk toward Teleki volcano at the south end of Lake Turkana's basin. Evening light over the salt flats.

Day 5. Climb back out of the valley and drive to South Horr.

Day 6. Drive back to Maralal.

Day 7. Return to Nairobi.

Daytime temperatures often pass 40 degrees Celsius. All activity runs early and late.

Is this suguta expedition safe?

Often, but numbers change with water levels.
