The breakfast and dinner was on time and delicious... We even had a bonfire. Our tour guide: Cephas is the best tour guide and driver I've ever meet. He made our safari most memorable. Day by day

Day 1. Drive about six hours to Samburu. Evening game drive.

Day 2. Full day in Samburu for the special five: Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Somali ostrich and Beisa oryx.

Day 3. Drive about four hours north on good tarmac to Marsabit.

Day 4. Walk in Marsabit forest and visit the crater lake viewpoints.

Day 5. Long day across the Chalbi Desert via North Horr to Loyangalani, about eight hours.

Day 6. Lake Turkana day. Visit an El Molo village and swim at a safe spot.

Day 7. Boat trip on the lake if winds allow, rest in the afternoon.

Day 8. Drive south via South Horr to Maralal, about seven to eight hours.

Day 9. Drive about four to five hours to Nanyuki for a comfortable night.

Day 10. Drive back to Nairobi.

When is the best time for a Turkana Marsabit Samburu trip?

June to September and December to February. Avoid April and May when roads can wash out.

What should I pack?

Light long sleeves, a scarf for dust and wind, a wide hat, a power bank and a good water bottle.

Are park fees included?

Yes. Samburu and Marsabit park fees and village fees are in the quote.

How long are the drives?

Several days run six to eight hours. This frontier Kenya tour suits people who enjoy the road.

Can children come?

Older children who cope with long drives are fine. It is not ideal for under tens.

Is it safe? How does it compare with Samburu alone?

Routes are checked before travel and your guide knows the area. Samburu alone is easy and comfortable. This trip adds the lake and the desert at the cost of long days.
