Day 1. Short kitale tour in the morning with the market and Kitale Museum. Drive into the hills, about 1.5 to 2 hours. Settle in at the farm stay.

Day 2. Full day ridge walk with your local guide through forest patches and highland farms. Look north over the west pokot hills. About 5 to 6 hours on foot.

Day 3. Shorter morning walk to a viewpoint, lunch with your hosts, then drive back to Kitale.

How hard is the walking?

Moderate. Expect steady climbs on farm paths and forest tracks, mostly above 2,500 m, so take it slow on day one.

When is the best season for a cherangani hike?

December to March is the driest. The rains make the red soil slippery, though the hills look their greenest.

Will I see West Pokot?

The northern ridges look down into the West Pokot hills and the dry plains beyond. A full West Pokot visit can be added as an extra day.

How do I reach Kitale?

About 7 to 8 hours by road from Nairobi, or fly to Eldoret and drive about 1.5 hours.

Are the farm stays comfortable?

They are simple and clean, with shared or private bathrooms depending on the home. Hot water may come by bucket.

Can children come?

Yes, older children who enjoy walking. The guide can shorten any route.
