Day 1. Drive from Nairobi to Amboseli. Afternoon drive among the elephant herds.
Day 2. Morning drive in Amboseli, then on to Tsavo West.
Day 3. Mzima Springs for hippos and crocodiles, then the Shetani lava flow.
Day 4. Cross to Tsavo East for the red elephants and Lugard Falls.

Are roads passable in May?
Main park roads are fine in a 4x4. Your guide adjusts routes if a track is muddy.
Why are Tsavo elephants red?
They dust themselves with the red volcanic soil, which keeps insects and sun off their skin.
Can this end at the coast?
Yes. Tsavo East is close to Mombasa and Diani, so it is easy to add beach nights.
