Morning. Drive south through Kajiado to Namanga, about 2.5 hours. Meet your guide in town and start climbing through dry bush into forest.

Midday. Reach the summit ridge, about 3 to 4 hours up, for views over the plains and toward Kilimanjaro on a clear day. Packed lunch.

Afternoon. Walk down and drive back to Nairobi.

How hard is the namanga hike?

Hard. The trail is steep, rocky in places and can be overgrown. Plan on 6 to 7 hours of walking.

Is it safe so close to the border?

Yes. The hike stays on the Kenyan side and your guide knows the paths. Carry your ID, as border towns have regular checks.

When is the best season?

June to October and January to February. Rain makes the forest paths slippery.

What will I see?

Forest birds, monkeys and wide views. Kilimanjaro shows itself on clear mornings.

Can children join?

Older children with hiking experience. It is too steep for little ones.

Can I combine it with Amboseli?

Yes. Amboseli is about 1.5 to 2 hours from Namanga, so the hike can open a safari. Ask for a two day plan.
