Day by day

Day 1. Travel to a conservancy north of the reserve. Late afternoon drive to test your settings in the golden light.

Day 2. Out before sunrise for cats on the move. Back for midday editing, then out again until the light goes.

Day 3. Full day in the main reserve with a packed lunch, chasing big scenes on the open plains.

Day 4. Conservancy morning with off road access where rules allow. Night drive to look for owls, hyenas and leopards.

Day 5. Final sunrise session, breakfast, then the journey back to Nairobi.

Why stay in a conservancy for photography?

Conservancies cap the number of vehicles at a sighting and allow some off road and night driving. That means cleaner frames.

What lens should I bring?

A long zoom around 100 to 400mm covers most needs. Add a wide lens for skies and landscapes and a bean bag is provided.

Will there be power to charge batteries?

Yes. The vehicle has charging points and camps have power in the tents or the main area.

When is the best light and season?

Dry months from June to October give dust and gold. January to March brings clear air and great cat action.
