Day 1. Pickup in Mombasa and drive to Diani. Evening on the beach.

Day 2. Free day in Diani. Optional snorkelling or a Colobus conservation visit.

Day 3. Morning walk through Mombasa Old Town and Fort Jesus. Continue north to Watamu, about two to three hours.

Day 4. Visit the Gede ruins in the forest. Afternoon at Mida Creek at low tide.

Day 5. Morning trip to Marafa Hells Kitchen, the eroded sandstone canyon inland from Malindi. Fly from Malindi to Lamu.

Day 6. Walk Lamu Old Town with a local guide. Sunset dhow sail to Shela.

When is the best time for a Kenya coastline tour?

December to March is hot and calm. July to October is cooler and breezy. April to June brings the heaviest rain.

What should I pack?

Light cotton, a scarf or cover up for Lamu and Old Town, reef shoes and sunscreen.

Are entry fees included?

Yes. Fort Jesus, Gede and Marafa entry fees are in the price.

How long is each drive?

Diani to Mombasa Old Town takes about one to one and a half hours. Mombasa to Watamu takes two to three hours. Malindi to Lamu is a short flight.

Is it good for children?

Yes. Lamu has no cars, which children love. Some boat trips need life jackets for small kids, which are provided.

How is this different from the Swahili coast tour?

This trip leans on beaches with history on the side. The heritage tour spends more time in Old Towns, museums and ruins.
